VoicePrint's "Deadline Gold" Spotlights National Newspaper Award Winners in Western Canada

TORONTO, January 28, 2002 - The light will shine brightly on Wednesday, January 30 at 9 p.m. on two past National Newspaper Award winners from Western Canada: the Calgary Herald and the Vancouver Sun.

The Deadline Gold series will honour reporter Carol Hogg of the Calgary Herald (1974 NNA winner for feature writing); and Dick Beddoes of the Vancouver Sun (1959 NNA winner for sports writing).

Both articles look at a particular part of the entertainment world. Ms. Hogg's story is a salute to a Saturday-afternoon ritual that has all but disappeared. Mr. Beddoes' article is another salute: this one to a marriage of two people who strut their stuff in public in two very different ways.

As well as looking back, Deadline Gold also will feature articles nominated for 2001 National Newspaper Awards, culminating April 26 in a live broadcast from Calgary, where this year's winners will be announced.
