Voices Donated by CBC-TV Personalities
Toronto, ON (September 23, 2002) CBC Television and CBC
Newsworld personalities from across Canada volunteered their voices for
“VoicePrint’s Tribute to CBC Television’s 50 years of
Broadcasting” scheduled to air this Saturday, September 28th, 2002.
The CBC voices include Alison Smith, senior correspondent and host of
Sunday Report, Roger Abbott, from Royal Canadian Air Farce, and Peter
Jordan of It’s a Living.
“VoicePrint is a service that benefits so many Canadians,”
Harold Redekopp, Executive Vice-President, CBC Television commented. “We
were delighted to participate in this unique audio tribute by Canada’s
national reading service. CBC Newsworld has carried the VoicePrint signal
since the service launched in December 1990.”
Some readings were done off site, but the majority were recorded at CBC’s
Canadian Broadcasting Centre in Toronto, utilizing VoicePrint’s
portable digital audio system operated by one of its blind studio technicians.
“The CBC Volunteers’ enthusiasm for what VoicePrint does was
heartwarming,” said Kelly Ashton, Voiceprint Producer. “It
was a wonderful experience working with them.”
The tribute programming, to be heard throughout the day, will focus on
Canadiana with articles read from a number of Canadian magazines.
VoicePrint, a division of The National Broadcast Reading Service Inc.
(NBRS), is a not-for-profit charity set up in 1989 to enhance access to
printed news and information for more than three million vision- and other
print-restricted Canadians. The service delivers its audio version of
newspaper and magazine articles via cable and satellite to more than 6.4
million homes and can also be accessed on the internet at www.voiceprint.ca.
