Inclusion in Canadian Sport System on VoicePrint
Toronto, ON (May 13, 2003) – There are only three
months left until the International Blind World Championships and Games.
During that time Gary Steeves, President of the Canadian Blind Sports
Association (CBSA), will promote inclusion issues and policies impacting
Canadian athletes who are blind.
Local Vancouver volunteer, Matt LaFleur, conducts an
insightful interview with Gary Steeves to discuss the scope of the CBSA's
involvement with these games. “Canada’s been a great leader
in disability sports,” says Steeves, “this gives us an opportunity
to demonstrate the need for an on-going voice of expertise in the area
of blindness within the Canadian sports system.” The games, held
in Quebec City this year, serve as a qualifying event for the Paralympic
Games in Athens, 2004.
Arlene Patterson, General Executive for VoicePrint says, “The interview
gives a great understanding into what athletes and organizers have to
consider when participating in such events. Things we wouldn’t usually
consider." The interview will air on Saturday, May 17 and June 7,
2003 on VoicePrint as part of the Pfizer Canada series on Ability Today.
The Pfizer Canada series is a monthly program series produced by VoicePrint
that spotlights the Paralympic Movement and the 12th Summer Paralympic
Games to be held in Athens next year.
