'In Conversation With...'
In April 2001, the Prime Minister set up the Commission
on the Future of Health Care in Canada. Roy Romanow was appointed as its
sole Commissioner with a mandate to review Medicare, engage Canadians
in a national dialogue
on its future and recommend ways to enhance the system's quality and sustainability.
When Romanow accepted the assignment he promised Canadians that any recommendation
he proposed would be designed to strengthen the program and be evidence-based
and value-driven.
Tens of thousands of Canadians participated, speaking passionately, eloquently
and thoughtfully about how to preserve and enhance the Canadian health
care system. In late 2002, the Romanow report was released. It incorporated
47 sweeping recommendations designed, which he said were designed to prepare
for the future.
What are the major recommendations? Is anything missing? Are there complications
ahead because the study was not undertaken sooner? Looking at these questions
and providing a disability perspective on health care are the core topics
this weekend of the VoicePrint feature series 'In
Conversation With...' The program host is Kelly Ashton and his guests
