Broadcast Reading Service (NBRS) a non-profit organization dedicated
to providing media access for millions of blind, low-vision and
print-restricted Canadians and their immediate families to a level
the sighted world enjoys.
The flagship service of N.B.R.S., VoicePrint, has
been broadcasting 24 hours a day since December 1, 1990
The VoicePrint mission is to deliver to all Canadians
with diminished vision a flow of information that is essential to
their decision-making and quality of life.
VoicePrint is a 24-hour satellite-to-cable network,
carrying National, Regional and local News. It's the World's largest
and Canada's exclusive, National reading service. A unique blend
of current information recorded by over 600 volunteer readers from
all walks of life.
Most of each program day consists of verbatim readings
from over 100 newspaper, magazine and periodicals. These articles
are packaged into topical program segments. The National Report
- today's headline new stories - airs Monday to Friday at 9:00 am
(Eastern Time). Business, sports, health, science, lifestyles and
leisure, regional news and old time radio shows are just a few of
the other topics in the program line up. Programming in the National
Broadcast Service is recorded at Toronto, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Calgary
and Vancouver.
The Voiceprint signal is carried by cable companies
with more than 2,000 subscribers, and multipoint distribution systems
(MDS) - such as Look TV, SkyCable and Image Wireless - operating
in English-language markets will be required to distribute VoicePrint.
Direct-to-home (DTH) satellite providers such as
Bell ExpressVu and Star Choice will also be required to distribute
the service to their English-language subscribers. You can also
